All About My Trip To Ghana

Ghana’s upcoming presidential election (Dec 2024)

The 2024 Ghana presidential election is set to be a pivotal moment in the country’s democratic history. Scheduled for December 2024, this election will see Ghanaians heading to the polls to elect a new president and parliamentary representatives. The race is expected to be highly competitive, with major political parties like the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vying for power.

Nana Akufo-Addo, the incumbent president from the NPP, is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term, opening the field for new contenders. As the race for the presidency intensifies, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Mahama emerging as the leading candidates, other contenders like Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, founder of the Movement for Change, and independent candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, a.k.a. Cheddar, have also hit the ground running.

A widespread mystery spread when giant billboards featuring a man in a mask and the simple message “leadership for the next generation #thenewforce” appeared in major cities across Ghana in Nov 2023. Other billboards, featuring a masked man flanked by other people with covered faces, rolled out as part of the campaign.

A couple months later, the mystery presidential candidate pulled off his mask.  It was Nana Kwame Bediako, a wealthy property developer popularly referred to as Cheddar.  Nice entrance.

Key issues in the election include economic management, job creation, education, healthcare, and corruption. Ghana’s vibrant civil society and free press play a crucial role in ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process. As the election approaches, the political climate is charged with anticipation, reflecting the nation’s commitment to democratic principles and its aspirations for a prosperous future. The 2024 election will undoubtedly shape Ghana’s trajectory in the years to come.
